The Mulberry Tree

The mulberry tree is monument of the First Serbian Uprising. Beneath the mulberry tree, on November 8th 1805. the Turkish commander Dizdar Muharem Gusa gave up the keys to the city of Smederevo, to the leader of the first Serbian Uprising – Karadjordje Petrovic. The mulberry tree is over 300 years old and is under state protection. It is in the category of botanical monuments of nature. The mulberry tree is located in the city center close to the high school.
