The first credit bank in Smederevo was founded in 1871, and was one of the first banks in Serbia. The founders were merchants from Smederevo, and as Smederevo at that time was a border town in which a great commerce between Serbia and Austria-Hungary, it was to be expected that soon after the Belgrade Credit Council and the First Serbian Bank, the First Credit Bank in Smederevo was also founded.
